The sled dog experience.
Please note: Our 2023/2024 winter season of mushing experiences is now closed. We will open our 2024/2025 season late in the fall of 2024.
Here at Top of the Hill Huskies, we are a women-owned and operated business with a deep love for our Siberian Husky Sled Dogs. Come and experience the joy of running sled dogs!
Our business offering includes a one to two hour experience for each group (many factors play into the length of our experiences) which includes meeting your team of Siberian Huskies, handlers, and mushers; learning how to harness a dog and the workings of mushing equipment; getting an exhilarating and educational ride through the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. We also offer an Add On where you can Learn to Mush your own team (weather depending)!
What sets us apart is our hands-on approach. We want you to interact with our dogs, learn about and get familiar with our equipment, help us praise the dogs for doing a great job, and of course - get a ride on either a sled or a four wheeler! We are passionate about our sport and everything that goes into it!
Actual sled dog experience length varies depending on number of guests, trail conditions, and weather. Due to the technicality of our trails, and safety for all involved, we generally only run one to two teams at a time but guarantee all paying customers get a ride. Water and hot beverages, restrooms, and a warming/bundling area available.

FAQs:
- Where are you located? We are located in Phelps, Wisconsin. We do not share our address unless you have confirmed your reservation with us. Please DO NOT use Google to find us - that is not our address. Check your confirmation email and the text you receive for our correct physical address. Note that cell service is not great, so you will want to have this BEFORE you come to see us.
- Should we arrive early? No. While we appreciate your effort to get here on time, our experiences sometimes run over and our dogs and staff need time to regroup between each session. Please arrive AT your scheduled time, not before.
- What should I wear in the winter? Our winter experience is entirely outside. While we have a warming area, we highly recommend winter jackets, snow pants, winter boots, gloves, hats, and neck gaitors. It’s always smart to dress in layers!
- What’s the weather like? In northern Wisconsin, the weather can be unpredictable at times. In the winter it ranges anywhere from -30 to 40 degrees. Check the forecast (our zip code is 54554) and plan accordingly. Unless the weather is extreme, we don’t usually cancel.
- What to bring? We require all visitors to wear a helmet when adding on the Learn to Mush option. We can provide one to you, but for proper fit and best hygiene, we recommend you bring your own. Bike helmets or ski/snowboarding helmets work best.
- Gratuity is appreciated! Our handlers and mushers work very hard to provide a great experience, and they love extra thanks. We have tip jars for our hard working mushers and a gift shop for souvenirs as well.
- What should I expect? Get ready to meet and interact with a lot of dogs who are super excited to do their job and are quite loud about it. You can get hands-on with the dogs and with the equipment. This is a great learning experience, so be prepared to ask questions as you think of them.
